Feed Your Body Right And It Will Thank You

January 27, 2007 6:28 PM | Diet | Comments (2)

You won’t see optimal results from working out unless you have the proper nutrition. This does not mean “going on a diet”. Crash diets are temporary, therefore the results are temporary. If you make a permanent lifestyle change, your results will be better, healthier, and permanent! Your body is a reflection of the way you eat most of the time.

Let me make that clear: Your body will look the way you eat 80-90% of the time! This means you have control over the way you look to a certain extent.

If you usually eat fast foods, junk food, fried or processed foods, don’t be surprised if you have an extra layer or more of fat around your midsection, or any other area.

Proper nutrition is simple:

  • Eat fat, get fat.
  • Don’t make a change, stay the same.
  • Eat lean and healthy, get lean and healthy.

The basic rules for a healthy individual are as follows:

  • Cut out fast foods, junk foods and processed foods.
  • Cut out saturated fats and trans fats, eat healthy fats instead.
  • Cut out sugar.  This includes sodas and punch.
  • Pay attention to nutrition labels.
  • Increase water consumption.  Have it with every meal, before, during and after workouts.
  • Eat 4-7 meals per day.  Listen to your body, everyone is different.
  • Each meal/snack consists of protein + carbohydrate + vegetable or fruit (see examples below).

PROTEIN                                                                  CARBOHYDRATES

egg whites                                                sweet potatoes

chicken breasts                                         brown rice

salmon                                                    basmati rice

tuna                                                        oatmeal

lean beef                                                 Cream of Wheat

turkey                                                      wheat or rye bread

Follow these tips and you are sure to see and feel the difference in no time!  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me.

Hi Valerie, Good to hear from you! Losing weight can be overwhelming, especially with a busy schedule. Do NOT give up, stay tuned, and feel free to ask me any questions that may help.
Thanks for your website. I have struggled with weight all my life and am (once again) seeking motivation/ inspiration to lose. As you've said I know what to do - it's the 'doing it' that's tough. My 95% travel status doesn't help. I'll visit your site often. Your information is solid and helpful. Thank you! Valerie (a sister in Chicago)
