Not feeling healthy? Yes you say! You have been exercising and you are in pretty good shape, but you still feel unhealthy. Or you are not in shape, but something is missing to give you the desire and discipline to get healthy. Well maybe you need to take a look at your spiritual health. Good health is a combination of physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. If all these things are not in equilibrium, you will not feel completely healthy. Spirituality can deeply affect your health. People who have developed good spiritual health realize that it gives their life meaning and purpose. |
Research has shown that people with a spiritual belief system cope better with illness, are less likely to be depressed and tend to have a positive outlook on life. People who meet regularly with people of similar spiritual beliefs have a lower risk of heart attacks, lower blood pressure than those who don’t. Research has also shown that people who receive strength and comfort from their faith are three times more likely to survive an open-heart surgery that those with no faith system.
To increase your spiritual growth, consider daily prayer or meditation in a quiet place. Meet with other people with your similar beliefs to create an encouraging and supportive experience and environment. Good spiritual health is needed to improve and maintain good mental, physical and social well-being!
