The + Little + Things = Success

![]() | If you hang around me long enough, you’ll eventually hear me say “Your results are the sum of the little decisions you make everyday.” In the fitness world, this means that your efforts – good or bad – will determine how you look and feel. When people see a great body, they usually ask “What did she do to get a body like that?” A more appropriate question would be “What does she do?” I say this because there is no one exercise that gets you in great shape – there is no one food that makes you lose weight. |
If I practice my good eating habits 90 percent of the time, and have my favorite treat sometimes, it’s no big deal. But if I have my favorite treat every few days (especially in addition to a diet that is not as healthy as I think), then I do not eat right 90 percent of the time and I will not get the results I am looking for. Let’s say you plan to eat right for a month. If during that month, you continue to eat French fries here and there, candy once in a while, soda now and then without really letting go, when the end of the month comes - and it will come no matter what you do – you will not look the way you want. If you make a mediocre change, don’t expect more than mediocre results.
Granted, it’s easy to brush this advice off – is a little splurging really going to make a difference? You have to look at the entire picture. Most people who log their daily eating habits and look at the labels find that they are eating more fat and sugar than they originally thought. Add “your favorite treat”, or “eat something to get rid of a craving” and you are really giving your body extra work to do. On the other hand, once your eating habits are improved for real, you won’t crave high fat or high sugar foods so much. In addition, you’ll be feeling better and you won’t want to sabotage your results with junk food.
A millionaire does not accumulate a million dollars without that first dollar. You don’t get years of experience under your belt until you go through the first month. Take it one step at a time and make good decisions constantly and you’ll get your results. If you’re not happy with where you are now, reassess the decisions you’ve been making lately – have they been helping or hindering your progress?
Make the commitment to yourself and give it your all - and most of all, DO NOT GIVE UP! If you fall down, brush yourself off and get right back up. If you stay down, you’ll never get there. Keep going. Do your best and you’ll get your best!
