17 Weeks Pregnant

September 28, 2008 12:11 PM | My Pregnancy | Comments (0)

17 weeks pregnant as of Friday. This has been another relatively uneventful week.  I went to the gym on Tuesday and took walks on Wednesday and Friday.  It’s possible I worked out too hard on Tuesday because I had a headache all day Wednesday and part of Thursday.

I say this because before I was pregnant, if I went all out at the gym after taking time off, I would get a headache the next day.  At the time, it didn’t feel like I was working out too hard, but then again I am pregnant now and my tolerance level is different.

16 Weeks Pregnant

I'm 16 weeks pregnant as of Friday.  This has been a pretty uneventful week.  I walked Tuesday and Wednesday, and overall, I was pretty moody – irritable, depressed, then back to normal.

I pretty much have the same symptoms as last week, plus congestion which usually occurs in the morning, and a weird stomach ache that feels like gas which started Thursday.  As for the belly, I officially cannot wear my jeans unless I wear them unzipped and unbuttoned.

Q and A: What can I do to firm my flabby arms?

September 18, 2008 10:05 PM | Q & A | Your Body | Comments (0)

The answer to this depends on why you consider your arms “flabby”.  Do you have excess skin?  Do you need to firm up the muscle and/or lose body fat?

When people ask me about this, they usually hold their arm out and shake it – in order to show me how flabby it is.  This is not a good way to determine your true “flab”.   I say this because even muscle moves when it’s relaxed.  Find the buffest person you can.  Ask them to relax their arm and shake it.  Even if it’s Lou Ferrigno, that arm will shake!

Pregnant at 15 Weeks

September 12, 2008 7:02 PM | My Pregnancy | Comments (0)

Today I am exactly 15 weeks pregnant.  Here’s how the week went:

Saturday I worked out with my husband.  I did 20 minutes on the stepper at level 9.  I used to be at level 15 or so before pregnancy.  Level 9 was enough of a workout on this day.  I forgot to wear my heart rate monitor.  My OB said not to let the heart rate get over 140 beats per minute, or 150 if I’m in really good shape.  Sunday we went for a walk in the forest preserves.  At this point, I still feel pretty crusty.

What are Uterine Fibroids?

September 10, 2008 7:56 PM | My Pregnancy | Comments (2)

Fibroids
I mentioned that I have uterine fibroids, so I figured I’d give a crash course on what they are.

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus. They are also called fibromyomas, leiomyomas or myomas, and although these names sound bad, uterine fibroids are not associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and they almost never develop into cancer.  Fibroids can range in size from very small, like the size of a pinpoint to very large, like the size of a melon.

Pregnant at 14 Weeks

As of today, I am exactly 14 weeks.  I am still feeling pretty crappy with added intense moodiness, but I am glad to be out of the first trimester.  Now the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically.  Also, the horrible symptoms usually start to decrease and you feel much better (so they say).

I’m actually still waiting for that.  The good news is I got to see the baby again this week.  It was my first visit with the specialist, so I had another ultrasound.  I liked the doctor a lot.  She was nice, and she answered questions I had before I asked.  I also discovered that I have 4 fibroids, not 3 like I originally thought.

My First Trimester

September 5, 2008 7:50 PM | My Pregnancy | Comments (1)

First trimester

As some of you know by now, my husband and I are expecting a child.  I have decided to share this journey.  I debated whether or not to do this, since it will contain personal information, but in the end I decided go ahead with it.

I remembered that in the beginning of my pregnancy, it helped me to read personal stories of other women going through similar things.  Maybe the information I share can make things easier for someone else.  Since this is the first posting, you can catch up on the first trimester below, and I’ll keep you updated as the weeks progress.
