21 Weeks Pregnant

October 26, 2008 8:51 PM | My Pregnancy | Comments (2)

21 Weeks pregnant as of Friday.  This week was exciting because I felt the baby move!  It turns out this had been going on for about a week, I just wasn’t sure what it was.  At first, I thought it was just muscle spasms.  Then I realized that they didn’t go away.

Finally, last Saturday, I felt the sensation again and had Patrick put his hand on my belly and he felt it as well.  That’s when I finally realized the baby was kicking me.  A friend asked what it felt like.  To me, it just feels like someone bumped into me – on the inside.  Some days, he moves a lot and some not as much, but ever since he started, I feel him move at least a little bit every day.

Also, as of last week, there’s no more exercising on my back.  The doctor said it could restrict blood flow to the uterus.  So instead of doing flat bench presses, I can do incline bench presses.  Instead of flat dumbbell presses, do incline dumbbell presses.  Abdominal crunches are out (many women stop doing them long before now), and whether to work abs now is debatable.  Some doctors say none at all.  Some allow it.

I had a pregnant client who was given the go ahead for abs, and instead of doing them flat like usual, we preformed them on an incline bench.  She came up as far as was comfortable and rested on the bench.  For me, the doctor gave me no restrictions on abs.  I did them at first, but then abdominal exercises would feel funny to me, so I don’t do them anymore.  I had actually stopped doing exercises on my back weeks ago when it became uncomfortable to even sleep on my back.  Part of the reason this change came sooner for me could be because of my fibroids.  Fibroids can cause your uterus to be larger than usual.

For a couple of days this week, one of my earlier symptoms came back - the weird taste in the mouth.  I certainly hope it’s not here to stay.
