Core Training and Ab Workouts: What's the Difference?
July 5, 2010 8:10 PM | Abs | Comments (1)
These days, core training and ab workouts are thought of as synonymous but in actuality, they are two totally different things. An ab workout is actually just a part of a core workout, which consists of a number of exercises that will tone both the upper and lower body. The core of the body is actually the body’s center of gravity and core exercises will help to stabilize the body and the hips, giving you a much better range of movement. |
There are many benefits to using a core training program. You need to have a strong core to make sure that you have a strong back, hips and other joints and that your joints will be able to handle any activities that involve putting weight on these joints. Once you have been doing core training for a little while, you will probably find that:
- you have better range of movement
- you have better control of your movements
- you have better coordination
- your spine and pelvis are stabilized
- your joints are more stable
- you have better balance
- your upper and lower body are carrying the proper amount of weight
Reduce Joint Pain with Core Training
There are millions of Americans who suffer from back pain, knee pain and other joint pain. Core training can help to reduce a lot of your aches and pains and make it much easier for you to go about your daily activities. And in addition to easing many pains, core training will also help to prevent future body aches, because your body is going to be much more stabilized.
Core Training Can Be Done With Apparatus
Even though you can do all of your core training exercises just about anywhere and without the need for special equipment, there are different pieces of apparatus that can be used to enhance your workout and give you even greater benefits. Some of the tools you may want to use when you are doing your core training include exercise balls, medicine balls, weights (dumbbells are the most popular) and resistance bands, just to name a few.
If you would like to begin core training but are not sure which exercises you should be doing, the best thing to do is visit a gym and speak with a trainer. He or she will be able to help you choose which core exercises are right for you, based on your current physical condition and activity level. As you progress with your core training, you will be able to add more difficult exercises to your routine. In no time at all, you are going to look and feel great.
