What Type of Cardio Machine Should You Use?

If you’ve recently decided to join a fitness center or are starting to workout at home, you may wonder what type of cardio equipment you should use to get in shape. It’s not like the old days when your only choices for cardio work were the track or the stationery bike. There are some gyms that have dozens of different types of cardio machines. From stair climbers to wall climbers, some gyms are packed full of some of the most confusing types of cardio machines that you can imagine.

Making the right choice will depend upon your fitness level, any limitations you might have and your own personal preferences. Here are some of the common pieces of workout equipment used by people for cardio workouts.

Stationery Bikes

The stationery bike has been a staple of gyms and fitness centers for years. Riding one of these bikes is a great way to get in some serious cardio work. One common complaint that people have about stationery bikes is that the seats often are not very comfortable after a few minutes. If you find that you are sore after riding a stationery bike, you may want to choose a recumbent bike for your workouts. Recumbent bikes allow you to be seated more comfortably while still getting a great aerobic workout.

Treadmills

The treadmill is another classic piece of workout equipment. It’s important when using treadmills to start off slowly. Too many people try to jump on a treadmill and start running at full blast speeds. Take your time and increase your pace slowly. You don’t want to push yourself too hard, and running on a treadmill takes a little bit of getting used to.

Stair Climbers

Stair climbers are another popular choice in exercise equipment. If you’ve ever had to dash up a flight of stairs, you know that it can take a lot out of you. Stair climbers allow you to get in some of the best cardio workouts imaginable. Like treadmills, using a stair climber can take some getting used to. Don’t expect to immediately sprint on these pieces of equipment. Take time to get used to using the machine first.

Stationery Rowers

These are great for people who have leg injuries that prevent running or biking. A stationery rowing machine doesn’t take up a lot of space, either. Many people skip over this piece of cardio equipment but those who use them know that stationery rowers give some of the best workouts you can get. To switch up your routine, try using a rower the next time you’re in the gym.

There are many other types of cardio equipment that you can choose from but these are some of the standards that you will see in most gyms. You can also purchase at-home models of each for your home gym.Author: Mike Stewart of the number one place to Get Insanity. The Insanity workout DVD is the best 60 day workout ever put to DVD.
