The South Beach Diet is a popular diet followed by famous celebrities around the world.  Cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston created the South Beach Diet along with Marie Almon, a dietician, for the main purpose of helping reduce the probability of heart disease among high-risk patients.

Dr. Agatston created the diet because he noticed that even though most of the patients are reducing the amount of fat they consume, they compensate by increasing their intake of carbohydrates.

This increased carb intake leads to the increase of blood sugar that results in the cells developing resistance to insulin.  His diet circulates in the principle of replacing “bad carbs” with “good carbs” and “bad fat” with “good fat” in order to prevent this occurrence.
