Panic Attack
  It's estimated that one out of every 75 people experience panic attacks which is a serious disorder.  Panic Disorders usually appear during the teens or early adulthood.  The exact cause of panic attacks is unclear, however, there seem to be a connection to major life events that are potentially stressful, such as having a first child, getting married, attending college, starting a job, etc.  There is also some evidence that there is a genetic predisposition to panic attacks; such as a family member has suffered from panic disorder.

So what exactly is a panic attack?
A panic attack is a sudden surge of fear that can be overwhelming without cause or warning.  It is way more intense than feeling stressed out that many people experience.   (See video below).

Creatine and Strength Improvement

Creatine’s most notable trait is its role in the energy production process.  It is an organic compound found in muscle fibers that is made from three amino acids: glycine, argininie, and methionine.  ATP and CP (creatine phosphate) are stored in muscles and serve as a source of immediate energy. 

The more ATP and CP that is in the muscles, the more the muscle can lift.  Additional creatine can be obtained through consuming meat and fish.  Many athletes choose to supplement with creatine, though, because cooking meat converts the creatine into creatinine, which is easily flushed out of the body through the kidneys.

  Today my wife and I almost ran into a car on our way to the gym as we crossed an intersection.  As we drove through the intersection, a car to our right ran the red light.  I slammed the breaks and hit my horn.  We could see the startled driver talking on his cell phone as he drove by.  He simply wasn’t paying attention. Surprisingly, a police car was sitting at the red light to our left but he did nothing.  We couldn’t believe the police officer didn’t see the close call!

Many people are caught up into staying fit to prevent disease and live a long healthy life, but they don't pay close attention to potential accidents.

Understanding Your Resting & Exercise Heart Rate

Resting heart rate gives an indication of stress and overtraining levels, while exercise heart rate gives an indication of exercise intensity.  Monitoring your resting and exercise heart rate over time as you train will change over time and provide you with good markers of physical conditioning.

To properly measure your heart rate, find your pulse and count how many pulses you detect for 30 seconds.  Now multiply the number of pulses by 2 which gives you pulses per minute thus your heart rate (beats per minute or bpm).  Of course you can purchase a gadget (such as a heart monitor) to easily measure your heart rate.

I recently read the book, “The New Wellness Revolution” by Paul Zane Pilzer.  It’s a very good book that speaks to our current and future wellness / healthcare system and potential opportunities that exist for entrepreneurs looking to get into the wellness industry. 

In Chapter 3, What You Need to Know about Food and Diet”, Mr. Pilzer promotes drinking soy milk instead of cow milk.  The reasons gave me pause to drinking cow’s milk.

Periodization is planned periods or cycles within an overall training / exercise program.  Periodization  promotes long-term training and performance which includes variations in training specificity, intensity, and volume.

Periodization was proposed in the 1960’s by Russian physiologist Leo Matveyev. Later, American exercise scientists further modified Matveyev’s work with special application to training strength and power athletes.
